I think if you analyse the game – even though I didn't watch the game back yet – I think we created a lot of opportunities. In the first half, especially in the first 30 minutes, we could have scored maybe three or four goals.

“I think if we were able to do that, especially in the first 30 minutes, the game was over. But again, I think I already said that in some previous games, when you are not able to be clinical enough, you just give some hope to the opposition, especially in the last 15 minutes of the first half. We dropped the intensity a little bit and conceded the goal because we were not switched on enough from a throw-in. And the second half was not good enough in terms of performance from our side.”

The French tactician added: “I don't have any regrets. My job is to make sure we just try to win every game, but in the back of my mind, also after this really intense block, I tired to protect some players because it's important also to think about their health. I think if you look at Millie, she played every single minute in every single game in this block. I think probably today was also a danger for her to stay on the pitch. She was just exhausted.

“This game was a quick turnaround. I think sometimes people don't realise, but when you play the game we played on the Thursday with a quick turnaround and the emotions the players lived on the pitch, I think in terms of mental and physical aspects. They left a lot of energy on the pitch, and it's a quick turnaround. So today, I just felt it was the right thing to protect a little bit my players because we still have a lot of games to be played until the end of the season.”

Central to Tottenham’s new long transfer policy has been a focus on youth talent, with their latest new face set to debut in January. The New York Red Bulls playmaker Lewis Morgan sustained a left knee injury in training, underwent successful surgery and will be sidelined for at least six weeks as a result, the club announced this week.

The Red Bulls have been hindered by injuries to start the season, with defender Cam Harper sidelined by a knee injury sustained in their home opener. Newly acquired Wiktor Bogacz has yet to make his debut due to a back injury. Schwarz said that attacker Mohammed Sofo, who started in place of Morgan on Matchday 3, will miss two weeks due to a groin injury.

The RBNY manager added that the absences will lead to "big chances" for young players to step up and fill the gap – such as 16-year-old Julian Hall – among others. However, Schwarz also acknowledged that the club are looking "inside and outside' of the roster for potential support due to their growing injury list. The MLS transfer window is open until April 23.

In recent years, it seemed most likely that Reece James would be the next one to tread that path, with reports claiming that Los Blancos were eyeing a move for the Englishman to replace Dani Carvajal 12 months ago.

However, no such move materialised, and injuries have halted Reece James’ career once more after he missed most of last season following surgery. In the time since, Real Madrid have changed their focus, and now want to sign England teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold, who will become a free agent at the end of the current campaign and could well leave Liverpool to join friend Jude Bellingham in Spain.

Though that may spell good news for Chelsea, Real Madrid’s newfound interest in one of James’ teammates at Stamford Bridge may be far worse.

Real Madrid want "special" Chelsea man

That comes as a shock report in Spain claims that Real Madrid are now monitoring Chelsea talisman Cole Palmer ahead of a potential move for the England international. Palmer found the net twice in the 4-2 win over Tottenham to take his tally to 11 goals for the season alongside six assists, and helping Chelsea move up to second in the Premier League in the process.

In fact, since moving to Stamford Bridge a little over 12 months ago, the former Manchester City man has blossomed into one of the Premier League’s best players, registering 50 goal contributions in just 47 outings.

Nick and I have been leading those on behalf of our respective teams. And I’m hopeful we can come to an agreement in a relatively short space of time, which will see both the players and Cricket Australia in a really strong position to come out of the pandemic.”Bubbles have been a strain on finances and the players•Cricket Australia via Getty ImagesGreenberg was pleased he had been able to forge a relationship with Hockley over the last year to create a greater dialogue between the ACA and CA on a range of issues.”We’ve spent a lot of time together,” Greenberg said. “And I’m pleased that we are spending time together because it’s really important when we said we can talk about different issues in the game and I can certainly give him perspectives on behalf of the players both male and females.”That relationship is really strong. I came into this role knowing the history of the last MoU and the difficulties that the game faced, and I was pretty determined to try to repair some bridges and try to mend some of those relationships. And so Nick and I both being new in our roles have an opportunity to do that.”The new MoU is one of a number of key issues for Cricket Australia to resolve in the coming months. New CA chairman Lachlan Henderson outlined a new cricket strategy with refreshing the BBL at the top of the agenda, particularly with a new TV broadcast rights deal set to be negotiated in 2024, after the new MoU is already in place.Covid has also affected CA’s bottom line with Henderson revealing the administration had spent $40 million on biosecurity over the past two seasons, money it needs to recoup.The players are hopeful the bio-bubbles will not be required next summer after two years of playing in such environments both home and abroad.”We’re really hopeful that we can return to some level of normality next summer by the time that rolls around,” Greenberg said. “But it’s certainly not lost on me and it shouldn’t be lost on the fans that the players have made enormous sacrifices to keep the game underway.”The players have made it very clear to me that at any point in time, the most important thing for them is to continue to play cricket and if you go back over the last 24 months the sacrifices players have made to be away from families to be in isolated environments, some of the sacrifices from players from Western Australia who have literally not been home since the middle of last year is nothing short of phenomenal.”They know that they’ve got a huge responsibility to do that, a responsibility to keep the show on the road but a responsibility to play cricket so that the revenues are still coming into the game. Because the revenues are there to generate grassroots participation and to keep the game flowing from top to bottom.”
