Leeds United Eyeing 42-Year-Old As New Manager

Leeds United have "enquired" about making former Fulham and Bournemouth boss Scott Parker their new manager, according to a new update.

Has Parker been linked with Leeds?

A host of different names have been linked with taking charge at Elland Road this summer, whether it be Brendan Rodgers, Steven Gerrard or Carlos Corberan, as the Whites prepare for life in the Championship.

One such individual is Parker, who is currently not in a managerial job, having left his post as Club Brugge boss earlier this year. The 42-year-old has plenty of experience in the second tier, having managed both Fulham and Bournemouth, guiding both into the Premier League.

It remains to be seen who will end up getting the Leeds job, but a fresh update certainly suggests that Parker is a strong candidate to come in.

What's the latest on Parker to Elland Road?

According to talkSPORT's Alex Crook, Leeds remain interested in making Parker their next manager, having made contact about his availability after his "brutal" departure from Belgium:

"Managerless Leeds have enquired about the availability of former Fulham and Bournemouth manager Scott Parker.

"Parker has been out of work since being brutally axed by Belgian side Club Brugge in March after only 12 games in charge.

"Leeds, who have also considered Parker’s ex-England teammate Steven Gerrard, are attracted to Parker due to his proven record of leading teams out of the Championship.

"Parker is also believed to be on the radar of Leicester, although talkSPORT understands the Foxes have not given up hope of tempting Graham Potter to drop down a division."

There is plenty of sense in Leeds naming Parker as their new boss this summer – Pep Guardiola has said he has a "lot of respect" for him in the past – with the report itself making it clear that the Whites could be swayed by bringing in someone with proven Championship pedigree.

It is essential that the club makes a quickfire return to the Premier League, rather than getting stuck in the second tier as so many clubs do, and the former England international could be a safer pair of hands than some of those in the running to take charge.

Granted, Parker hasn't necessarily gone on to thrive in the top flight, but he remains a young manager who is learning all the time, and he should be considered a strong option.

There could be better choices out there, depending on your stance, but it is hard to see him coming in and doing badly, judging by what he has achieved in the Championship in the past.

Everton Scouts Watching "Unplayable" £15m Forward For Dyche

Everton chiefs are keeping tabs on Sunderland forward Jack Clarke ahead of a potential move to the Premier League, according to reports in the last 48 hours.

Who is Jack Clarke?

Clarke is naturally a left-sided winger who completed his permanent move to the Stadium of Light last summer from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur, following a successful loan spell the season before. As per Transfermarkt, across both periods up north, he's made a total of 70 appearances to date, scoring 12 times.

In the Championship, the 22-year-old started all 46 games last season and firmly established himself as Tony Mowbray’s second overall best-performing player with a WhoScored match rating of 7.11, and this impressive form has been catching the eye outside of the northeast.

Football League World previously credited Glasgow Rangers, Brentford, Crystal Palace, Wolverhampton Wanderers and the Toffees all with an interest in the forward who is, as stated by the outlet, expected to be sold during the upcoming window, and Sean Dyche’s admiration has now once again been brought to the surface.

Are Everton signing Clarke?

According to iNews, Everton scouts are “paying attention” to Clarke’s situation and there is a definite “interest” in signing him ahead of the 2023/24 campaign. Sunderland are, of course, reluctant to lose their prized asset, but it’s stated that offers of around £15m could “prompt a conversation”.

The Black Cats attacker’s agent Ian Harte, however, has claimed that his client is “happy” where he is and currently has “no intention” of pushing for an exit. The one thing worth noting though is that “every player has a price” and neither the talented prospect, nor his representatives, have “any control” over whether the club decide to accept any offers that arrive at their door.

Sunderland forward Jack Clarke.

Should Moshiri splash the cash on Clarke?

Everton should be focusing on signing an out-and-out centre-forward this summer but any kind of positive attacking reinforcement can’t be turned down, and having been dubbed “unplayable” by journalist Josh Bunting, Farhad Moshiri should definitely empty his pockets to bring Clarke to Goodison Park.

The York-born talent racked up 20 goal contributions (11 assists and nine goals) in 45 Championship appearances last season, form which saw him collect six man-of-the-match awards, and even his displays were outstanding when he wasn’t on the scoresheet.

As per FBRef, the SMI Sports Management client recorded a total of 147 shot-creating actions which was more than any other of his fellow teammates, and whipped 96 crosses into the box which was the second-highest number, so he’s always looking to pose a threat in the final third and is a player that would make a significant difference for Dyche on Merseyside.

Tamil Nadu, Punjab pick up first wins of the season

A round-up of the final day of Group A matches in the second round of the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy

ESPNcricinfo staff16-Oct-2016Railways collapsed dramatically on the final day in Bilaspur as Tamil Nadu won by 174 runs – their first win of the season. Railways had picked up a 52-run first-innings lead. Tamil Nadu made up for their abject first-innings performance with 452 for 8 declared, courtesy centuries from captain Abhinav Mukund and Dinesh Karthik. Set 401, Railways had ended the third day on 108 for no loss, but crumbled for 226 in 57.2 overs on the final day. Railways lost Shivakant Shukla on his overnight score of 52 off the fourth ball of the day, and from there on, it was a continuous slide. Saurabh Wakaskar, who resumed on 54, struck 120 for his sixth first-class century, but the rest could not deliver and Railways lost their last five wickets for four runs. Offspinner Malolan Rangarajan led the wreckage, finishing with 4 for 37.At the CH Bansi Lal Cricket Stadium in Lahli, Madhya Pradesh folded for 180 in their second innings to give Punjab a 126-run win. Punjab had declared on 175 for 9, having taken a first-innings lead of 131. Set a target of 307, MP had lost Mukul Raghav off the last ball of the previous day. Resuming on 26 for 1, they soon found themselves 74 for 4. Devendra Bundela (32), the captain, and Shubham Sharma, who top-scored with 37, got together for a 50-run stand, but that was about as much resistance as MP could offer. Manpreet Gony (4 for 41) and Siddarth Kaul (3 for 42), Punjab’s new-ball bowlers, did the bulk of the damage. The match between Baroda and Mumbai at the Palam Grounds in New Delhi was a draw. Mumbai had eked out a lead of 18 runs in a thrilling end to their first innings, responding to Baroda’s 305 with 323, thanks to Akhil Herwadkar’s century. The final day began with Baroda on 321 for 5 in their second innings, and Deepak Hooda, batting on 66, and Swapnil Singh, unbeaten on 5, at the crease. Baroda added 62 more and declared on 383 for 5, after Hooda raised his fifth first-class century.Mumbai began strongly through their top three, with Herwadkar and Jay Bista (49) putting on 68 for the opening wicket, and Shreyas Iyer scoring 46 at No. 3. Suryakumar Yadav and Armaan Jaffer fell early, but Aditya Tare, the captain, saw off the remaining overs in the company of Abhishek Nayar. Tare was not out on 63 and Mumbai were 224 for 5 when stumps were drawn.Bengal collected first-innings points against Uttar Pradesh after playing out a draw at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Bengal had put up 466 in the first innings, courtesy centuries from Abhimanyu Easwaran and Manoj Tiwary. UP narrowly missed the first-innings lead, getting bowled out for 410, after which Bengal ended the third day on 30 for no loss. Easwaran struck his second century of the match and stayed not out on 110, while Shreevats Goswami also scored a century of his own. After Goswami’s dismissal, for an even 100, Bengal declared on 274 for 6. Chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav followed up his five-wicket haul in the first innings with 4 for 107.Tanmay Shrivastava and Almas Saukat, the UP openers, batted out 20 overs before UP went to stumps on 70 for no loss.

Aston Villa: £69m Sensation Could Be Their Own Saka

Aston Villa have been linked to a playmaker ahead of the transfer window, as Unai Emery aims to bolster his impressive side this summer.

The Spaniard has transformed the club since his arrival in October, and with European football confirmed, the Villans are the talk of the pending transfer market so far.

What’s the latest on Pedro Goncalves to Aston Villa?

As reported by Portuguese sports news outlet A Bola (via Sport Witness), Sporting CP forward Pedro Goncalves is wanted by Villa this summer.

The report states that the Midlands club have ‘advanced with approaches’ for the star, with no concrete offer made as of yet.

The 24-year-old has an €80m (£69m) release clause at Sporting, with the report claiming the club will ‘demand’ such a fee to be paid.

What could Pedro Goncalves bring to Aston Villa

Praised by scout Jacek Kulig for being "incredible", the 24-year-old has had an electrifying campaign in Portugal.

As per FBref, in a total of 44 appearances in all competitions this term, the winger has contributed to a remarkable 32 goals, scoring 18 and assisting 14 across three competitions.

In the league alone, the Chaves-born ace has scored 15 goals and assisted 11, making him an integral part of Sporting’s attack – as per Sofascore.

With such numbers alone, there’s little to debate as to why Emery is keen to get his hands on the forward, who in his Villa squad, could be his next ‘big thing’.

The Spaniard has worked with a number of hot prospects over the years, not many as prolific as Bukayo Saka, who has shot up the ranks at Arsenal since being handed his debut by Emery in north London back in 2018.

Soccer Football – Europa League – Group Stage – Group E – FC Vorskla Poltava v Arsenal – NSC Olimpiyskiy Stadium, Kiev, Ukraine – November 29, 2018 Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka receives instructions from manager Unai Emery before being substituted on REUTERS/Valentyn Ogirenko

Highlighted by One Versus One as being the best player statistically in the Premier League this season, Saka has been hailed as being “dangerous” by former Arsenal legend Ian Wright for his form and rise to fame at the club.

The youngster may not have had a rise so fast had it not been for Emery’s decision to grant him the freedom to bloom, and now the Spaniard could have his next version of the ace at Villa with Goncalves.

As tricky forward players, the two are similar in how direct they are on the ball, as shown by their statistics over the past year, with the Portuguese star averaging 1.41 successful take-ons per 90 to Saka’s 1.96 per 90 – as per FBref.

The 24-year-old could be Villa’s “superstar”, as lauded by pundit Jack Collins, and would undoubtedly be a significant upgrade on the club’s present options on the left wing, with the forward humiliating Leon Bailey with his averages per 90.

While his ability to score and assist is his most impressive trait, the Sporting gem is influential in build-up play and creating chances, as shown by FBref, with him averaging 5.26 progressive passes per 90, and 4.55 shot-creating actions per 90.

To highlight the magnitude of quality that the Portuguese could bring to the current Villa squad, Bailey averages just 1.28 progressive passes and 2.84 shot-creating actions per 90 – as per FBref.

While Saka is his own player, as is Goncalves, who could present Emery with a player that could follow in the England star’s footsteps in excelling in the Premier League under the watchful eye of the Spanish coach.

Tottenham: Spurs Now Set To "Amazing" Manager Move

Tottenham Hotspur are set to make a formal approach for Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou after their Scottish Cup final this weekend, according to reliable journalist Miguel Delaney.

Who could be the next Spurs manager?

Spurs and chairman Daniel Levy still have it all to do in terms of appointing Antonio Conte's successor, with the search becoming all too familiar to their disastrous hunt for Jose Mourinho's replacement in 2021.

It took a quite ridiculous 72 days for Tottenham to eventually appoint Nuno Espirito Santo back then – a move which ultimately resulted in the Portuguese's sacking after just a few months.

Conte then stepped into Nuno's shoes, and now that marriage has unceremoniously ended, it's back to the drawing board for Levy and co as they attempt not to repeat the same mistakes all over again.

There are a few names still in the frame, with the likes of Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi, Fulham manager Marco Silva and even free agent Graham Potter contending.

Marcelo Gallardo could also emerge as a late option with Levy personally holding Luis Enrique talks as well.

It's imperative that Tottenham get this next appointment right as protests surround the club board and dissatisfaction gathers real pace among supporters.

According to a recent report by The Independent, and reliable reporter Delaney, there has been an update on Spurs' links to Ange Postecoglou – who has emerged as a leading candidate in recent days.

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou

As per his information, the Australian is attracting real interest from Spurs, who are expected to make a "formal approach" for him after Celtic's looming Scottish Cup final against Inverness this weekend.

Delaney also adds a potential timeline for Tottenham's managerial appointment as the north Londoners hope to complete a hire within 10-14 days.

This should come as music to the ears of supporters who have long waited for Conte's replacement to be finalised, though it remains to be seen if Spurs do in fact follow through.

Who is Ange Postecoglou?

Having won a pretty impressive 10 pieces of silverware across spells in Japan, Australia and now Scotland – Postecoglou could make it 11 with victory over Inverness.

The 57-year-old arguably falls into Tottenham's category of manager – an out-and-out attacking tactician who has been revered for his "beautiful football" north of the border.

Snooker legend John Higgins certainly holds him in very high esteem – having made a glowing statement to STV (via The Celtic Way) regarding the Celtic boss:

“Ange Postecoglou has been amazing for the club he has come in and everybody just loves him," said Higgins."So for as long as he stays at Celtic I think we can look forward to more games like the weekend for, hopefully, years to come."That’s maybe why I am feeling so good just now. It would be a dream to be able to go and parade another world championship at Celtic Park and meet big Ange, that would be an amazing feeling."

Supreme Court puts BCCI president in a spot

BCCI president Anurag Thakur has been asked to submit a “personal affidavit” to clarify whether he had sought ICC intervention against the Lodha Committee’s recommendations

Nagraj Gollapudi08-Oct-20162:49

Supreme Court wants BCCI president to clarify approach to ICC

The Supreme Court has put BCCI president Anurag Thakur in what could be a difficult position by asking him to submit a “personal affidavit” to clarify whether he had sought ICC intervention against the implementation of the Lodha Committee’s recommendations.Last month ICC chief executive Dave Richardson had told that Thakur had verbally asked the ICC for a letter asking whether implementing one of the Lodha Committee’s recommendations would constitute government interference in the BCCI. The Lodha Committee had said that one of the nine members on the Apex Council should be a nominee from the Comptroller and Auditor General’s office, a government organisation. The ICC does not permit any government interference in its member boards.Richardson had said that ICC chairman Shashank Manohar, Thakur’s predecessor at the BCCI, had refused to intervene unless the Indian board put its request in writing.Amicus Curiae Gopal Subramanium had drawn the Supreme Court’s attention to the issue while reading out from the Lodha Committee’s status report on Thursday. “Interview aired by media with ICC CEO David Richardson showing that President BCCI had requested ICC to issue a letter stating that the intervention by this Hon’ble Court amounted to Governmental interference,” the status report said.Subramanium told the court that the BCCI had denied that Thakur had asked the ICC for a letter and instead said Richardson was “confused”. “It is being incorrectly alleged that the President BCCI made a request to the ICC to issue a letter stating that this Committee amounts to Governmental interference. This suggestion is denied,” the BCCI affidavit, submitted in court on October 5 as a response to the status report, had said. The affidavit said Richardson “falsely” stated events. “It appears that an interview was given by Mr. David Richardson the ICC CEO falsely stating that the BCCI President had requested the ICC to issue a letter stating that the intervention by this Hon ‘ble Court amounted to Governmental interference. It is submitted that no such letter or oral request was ever made to the said gentlemen either by the BCCI President or any office bearer of the BCCI. It is apparent that Mr. Richardson has confused himself in relation to the issue.”The Chief Justice of India TS Thakur, leading the three-judge bench, wondered if Richardson was aware of the BCCI’s remarks. “Is he [Mr. Richardson] still the CEO? Does he know that he is being maligned … the accusation is that David Richardson made a false statement that the BCCI asked him to issue a letter,” Chief Justice Thakur was quoted as saying by the on Thursday. The BCCI’s affidavit also said that during his tenure as board president Manohar had also expressed reservations against having a CAG nominee on the Apex Council. According to the BCCI, Manohar had changed his stance since becoming ICC chairman.”This issue is required to be considered in the light of the fact that Mr. Shashank Manohar Senior Advocate had clearly opined as the BCCI President that appointment of the CAG in the BCCI shall result in suspension of the BCCI as it would constitute governmental interference. In fact the same had been submitted on affidavit before this Hon ‘ble Court.”However, as Chairman of the ICC, Mr. Manohar had taken a contrary stand and clarification was sought by Mr. Anurag Thakur during an informal discussion on what the exact status would be if the CAG was inducted by the BCCI as part its management and whether it would amount to governmental interference as had been advised and affirmed by Mr. Manohar during his stint as BCCI President,” the board’s affidavit said.Chief Justice Thakur then asked Subramanium who had sworn to the BCCI affidavit. When he was told it was Ratnakar Shetty, the board’s administrative and game development manager, the court was curious as to how Shetty had been privy to an alleged conversation that took place between Thakur and the ICC.The court then asked Shetty to file a separate undertaking stating how he was allowed to sign the affidavit as a response to the Lodha Committee’s status report. It asked Shetty to, “place on record a copy of the authorisation/resolution passed by the BCCI on the basis of which he has filed the affidavit supporting the response of the BCCI to the status report.”BCCI president Anurag Thakur is set to leave for Cape Town to attend ICC board meetings between October 10 and 14, where he will meet Richardson and Manohar, the ICC parties mentioned in the Lodha Committee’s status report and BCCI affidavit.

Arsenal Linked With £35.5m Barcelona Flop

Journalist Graeme Bailey has revealed Arsenal want to sign Barcelona flop Malcom after a "sensational" season with FC Zenit.

What are the latest Arsenal and Malcom rumours?

The Gunners will no doubt be on the hunt for a number of new signings this summer having Champions League football for next season.

And it sounds as though they could be after a former transfer target who appears to have potentially turned his career around.

Indeed, Malcom was linked with a move to the Premier League club way back in 2018, while Tottenham Hotspur were also in the mix.

The player failed to impress at Barcelona – earning himself a label as a "flop" – before moving onto Zenit where he has rediscovered his best form.

While talking on 90min's Talking Transfers, Bailey explained that the Brazilian has had a great season and will soon be heading back to "mainstream European football".

He said (44:35): He's had a sensational season for Zenit. He had 30 goal contributions in total.

"And he's got a lot, he's got some very big clubs who have been very impressed by his progress PSG, but also Arsenal, Man City and Newcastle – we are being told, have also taken note.

"It's a difficult situation. Teams are going to have to buy him, he is co-owned by some Brazilian businessman as well, but keep an eye on this one.

"Malcom is very much a wanted man. And I think it'd be heading back to mainstream European football.”

What happened to Malcom at Barcelona?

After a fine year in Ligue 1 at Bordeaux, he eventually joined Barcelona for around €41m (£35.5m) but made a total of six league starts amassing 608 minutes of football in his debut season (via 90min).

Malcom was then sold to Zenit the following summer and has steadily developed into a great player for them, netting 26 goals and providing nine assists in all competitions this season.

Despite it seeming like it was so long ago that Arsenal wanted him, he is still only 26 years of age and so could be of interest to Mikel Arteta.

It seems Arsenal won't be the only big European club keeping tabs on his progress this summer but with Malcom playing so well on the right wing in Russia, he could be viewed as an ideal backup for Bukayo Saka – especially as rotation will be key next term with Champions League football to contend with as well.

Bangladesh bowlers excited by Walsh's coaching

Courtney Walsh began his first training session as bowling coach of Bangladesh getting to know all the players and asking them to target the stumps in six-over spells

Mohammad Isam05-Sep-2016If young seamer Kamrul Islam Rabbi’s description of Courtney Walsh’s first training session as bowling coach was any indication, the Bangladesh players’ excitement at working with one of the best fast bowlers in history won’t be fading anytime soon.”We have been regularly talking among ourselves over the last week about our new bowling coach and when we heard that it was Courtney Walsh, we all became very happy,” Rabbi said. “He observed us today, without pointing out any mistakes. When he applauds at something that we do, it means a lot to us. Those of us who are in the pipeline looking forward to playing international cricket, we can learn a lot from him.”Walsh began his routine by asking the players to introduce themselves and their style of bowling, and made them target the stumps with no batsman facing.”After asking everyone’s name, he asked whether we are left-arm or a right-arm bowlers,” Rabbi, or Rab as Walsh calls him, said. “He didn’t tell us much since there is a [practice] match tomorrow. He told us to focus on the game. He made us do spot-bowling for six overs each. We bowled yorkers and length deliveries specifically [to prepare] for [the inter-team] match. We bowled yorkers to left-handers and length for right-handed batsmen.”He looked into our grip, run-up and action. I have been seeing his Youtube videos in the last few days. He is such a legendary bowler. We were little when he used to play. From what I saw today, I think he likes the basics, like a basic action. He said that my run-up is smooth and looked at the grip of Al-Amin [Hossain] and Rubel [Hossain].”Rabbi, 24, hoped Walsh’s experience would help educate uncapped fast bowlers like him about playing at the top level.”He knows what goes on in an international match. He can bring back a bowler from bad form. He would know my mental state when a batsman dominates me. He can prepare the bowler better in the next game.”
